What should Ultra Chloraseptic be used for? Ultra Chloraseptic is used to relieve sore throat pain.
How does it work? The product contains the active ingredient Benzocaine, which belongs to the group of medicines called local anaesthetics. It works by helping to numb sore throat pain fast. The benzocaine comes in an antiseptic base and is in the form of a spray. It has a swivel head applicator to help deliver the Benzocaine direct to the throat by spraying. Ultra Chloraseptic targets the pain and works in seconds.
Where can I buy Ultra Chloraseptic? Ultra Chloraseptic is available from pharmacies in the UK without prescription. Please ask your pharmacist for Ultra Chloraseptic Anaesthetic Throat Spray. The recommended retail price is £4.49 for 15 mls.
Is it okay to use the product while pregnant or lactating? Although there is no literature evidence of hazard due to benzocaine, good medical practice indicates minimal drug usage in pregnancy. Therefore, the product is not recommended during pregnancy or lactation.
Is the product suitable for children? Yes, the product is suitable for some children. For children 6 - 12 years, administer 1 spray to the back of the throat. For children 13 and over administer the adult dose of 3 sprays to the back of the throat.

How often can I use the product? One dose of product is 3 sprays for adults or children 13 years and over or 1 spray for children 6 to 12 years.
You can take one dose of the product every 2 - 3 hours up to the maximum of 8 doses per day.
Do not use for more than 3 days.
What if I still have a sore throat after using the product for 3 days? Sore throats can last for many days. However, if you have been using Ultra Chloraseptic for 3 days, we recommend that you stop using the product and consult your doctor if your symptoms persist.
Also, if your sore throat is severe or is accompanied by fever, headache or nausea, we also recommend that you consult your doctor.
Does the product contain alcohol? Yes, the product contains ethanol.
Does the product contain sugar? No.
Is it okay to eat or drink after using the product? The therapeutic action of the product is to numb the sore throat and provide relief of pain. The action of eating or drinking may interfere with the numbing action of the product, hence we would not recommend eating or drinking after using the product.
What should I know before taking Ultra Chloraseptic? As with any medicine, please read the Patient Information Leaflet carefully. If you are not sure about anything or have any questions, please ask your pharmacist or doctor. DO NOT take the product and consult your doctor if you have difficulty in breathing, noisy breathing or severe difficulty in swallowing. Also, DO NOT take if you know you are allergic to benzocaine or any of the other ingredients.
If sore throat is severe, or accompanied by fever, headache or nausea, consult your doctor. Do not give this medicine to children under 6 years of age.
Remember, keep this and all medicines out of the reach and sight of children.
What is the best way to spray the product on my throat? The product comes in a bottle with a cap and directional spray nozzle. Remove the cap. Turn the nozzle 180º so that the nozzle is extending beyond the bottle itself. Hold the bottle in your hand with your index finger on the pump. Aim the nozzle towards the back of your throat. It is helpful to stick your tongue out to keep a clear path to your throat. Press the pump. If you are an adult, adjust your angle for the second two sprays to ensure the product reaches the throat. Do not exceed the dosage on the labeling.
It may be easier the first few times to stand in front of the mirror whilst administering the product. Also, it may be useful to make one or two sprays into a sink (or similar) in order to get a feel for the pump action and the angle at which the spray leaves the nozzle.
What happens if I have a side effect whilst taking the medicine? You may notice temporary numbness of the mouth whilst taking Ultra Chloraseptic. This shows the product is working.
If you notice anything else unusual or have any unexpected effects, stop taking the product and consult your doctor or pharmacist.
How much benzocaine is in each dose? The product contains 0.71% benzocaine. This is equivalent to 1 mg per spray or 3 mgs in an adult dose of 3 sprays.
What other ingredients are in Ultra Chloraseptic? In addition to Benzocaine, the product contains ethanol, polyethylene glycol, propylene glycol, glycerol, cetylpyridinium chloride, levomenthol, sodium saccharin, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, sodium hydroxide and water.
Is it okay to drive or operate machinery after taking the product? When taken in accordance with the Patient Information Leaflet, the product is not expected to effect your ability to drive or operate machinery.
What happens if the product won't spray? Sometimes the product can dry in the nozzle, clogging it and preventing the product to spray. If this happens, gently remove the white nozzle from the pump and run under hot water to remove the dried product.
